BPQY
The
BARC team has gotten a lot of TA requests regarding the BPQY since
we announced that the Benefits Planning Query should be available
from field offices and telephone service centers. SSA has been aware
of some of the challenges that come with starting a new, large program,
and SSA staff have been working diligently behind the scenes to
make these requests easier. Until the road is smooth, however, we
have some suggestions to help you and the beneficiaries with whom
you work access this valuable information.
- If
a field office is reluctant to respond when you send a release
and request for a BPQY, please notify your BARC Technical Liaison
as soon as you can. Be prepared to provide the name of the person
with whom you spoke, the date, and the office location. We will
contact the Project Officer involved to see if OESP can intervene,
as it has successfully done in the past. If you have the individual’s
SSN and a release, let us know and we will give you a FAX location
to send the request for the short-term. DO NOT EMAIL THE SSN
TO ANYONE!
- If
a beneficiary calls to make the request from the 800 number,
and has difficulty, please ask the beneficiary to note the name
of the person, the date of the call, and the location they reached
if possible. This is especially true if the Rep requests payment
for the BPQY—we have heard rumors of this and it is absolutely
inappropriate! If you have a release and or the SSN, we can
give you an alternate way to access the BPQY for the short-term.
Please
continue to request these reports through the usual sources whenever
possible. We are all hopeful that this is part of the learning curve,
and will be remedied very soon.
